Accidental
Nostalgia (an operetta about the pros and cons of amnesia
- Part I of The
Accidental Trilogy
- written and performed by Cynthia Hopkins, accompanied by co-designers
Jim Findlay and Jeff Sugg and the band Gloria Deluxe) premiered
in March/April 2004 at St.
Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn, NY. It has since been performed
at

the Boards in

Ann's Warehouse (for a second run in January 2005); the
Walker
Art Center in Minneapolis, MN (January 2005); the Philadelphia
Live Arts Festival (September 2005); the Houston
Society for the Performing Arts in Houston,

Center for the Arts
in Columbus, OH (May 2006); and the Andy
Warhol Museum
in Pittsburgh, PA
(March 2007).
A
full-length
album of the music from Accidental Nostalgia was released in
January 2005, and is currently available through CD
Baby, Amazon, and iTunes. Also during
the year 2005, two new articles about the show were published
- in the Performing
Arts Journal and Theatre
Forum
- and
Cynthia Hopkins was honored with a Bessie Award for her contribution to the creation of Accidental Nostalgia!
In February 2007, the script
of Accidental Nostalgia was published by Play
a Journal of Plays.
Accidental Nostalgia was developed through residencies
provided by AS220
(Providence, RI); NEST
(Brooklyn, NY) MASS
MoCA (North Adams, MA); the Perishable
Theatre (Providence, RI); and St.
Ann's Warehouse (Brooklyn, NY). Its creation was funded
in part through grants from the LEF
Foundation of New England and the Jonathan
Larson Performing Arts Foundation. Works-in-progress performances
were presented by the Whitney at Altria (April 2003 in NYC); MASS
MoCA (September 2003); and the Perishable
Theatre (December 2003 in Providence, RI).
Accidental
Nostalgia was written and composed by Cynthia Hopkins, and
created in collaboration with: co-designers Jim Findlay and Jeff
Sugg; choreographer Jordana Che Toback; directors Vanessa Gilbert
and DJ
Mendel;
