Accidental Nostalgia (an operetta about the pros and cons of amnesia - Part I of The Accidental Trilogy - written and performed by Cynthia Hopkins, accompanied by co-designers Jim Findlay and Jeff Sugg and the band Gloria Deluxe) premiered in March/April 2004 at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn, NY. It has since been performed at On the Boards in Seattle, WA (June 2004: go to Blog the Boards to read reviews by audience members); St. Ann's Warehouse (for a second run in January 2005); the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, MN (January 2005); the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival (September 2005); the Houston Society for the Performing Arts in Houston, TX (January 2006); the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, OH (May 2006); and the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA (March 2007).

A full-length album of the music from Accidental Nostalgia was released in January 2005, and is currently available through CD Baby, Amazon, and iTunes. Also during the year 2005, two new articles about the show were published - in the Performing Arts Journal and Theatre Forum - and Cynthia Hopkins was honored with a Bessie Award for her contribution to the creation of Accidental Nostalgia!

In February 2007, the script of Accidental Nostalgia was published by Play a Journal of Plays.

Accidental Nostalgia was developed through residencies provided by AS220 (Providence, RI); NEST (Brooklyn, NY) MASS MoCA (North Adams, MA); the Perishable Theatre (Providence, RI); and St. Ann's Warehouse (Brooklyn, NY). Its creation was funded in part through grants from the LEF Foundation of New England and the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation. Works-in-progress performances were presented by the Whitney at Altria (April 2003 in NYC); MASS MoCA (September 2003); and the Perishable Theatre (December 2003 in Providence, RI).

Accidental Nostalgia was written and composed by Cynthia Hopkins, and created in collaboration with: co-designers Jim Findlay and Jeff Sugg; choreographer Jordana Che Toback; directors Vanessa Gilbert and DJ Mendel; costume designers Kristen Lapham and Tara Webb; stage manager Susan Oetgen; performers Lisa Hickman, John Hopkins, Scott Shepherd, Gary Wilmes, and Maria Ventura; musicians Laura Cromwell, Matt Everett, Curtis Hasselbring, John Mettam, Pam Murray, Joel Thibodeau, Shawn Wallace, and Margie Wienk; and the band Gloria Deluxe (Kristin Mueller, Josh Stark, Philippa Thompson, and Karen Waltuch).
